Landscape and Accent Lights

• Must be 250 lumens or less per fixture if used to uplight a tree, shrub or other landscape feature (Section 102-5B). Uplighting of building facades and walls is prohibited except for temporary holiday lighting (Section 102-6B(1)).*

• Must be 2700K or less in color temperature (Section 102-4B) (2400K or less is recommended to be the most dark-sky and neighbor friendly)

• If used to uplight a landscape feature, must be aimed and oriented so that the light points directly towards it (Section 102-5B)

• Must be turned off between 11pm and 6am (or, in the case of nonresidential properties, within one hour of closing until one hour before opening) (Section 102-4D)

*There is a limit on the total lumens allowed for all fixtures (combined) that aren't fully shielded (see Section 102-4C(2)). For this reason, we recommend using fully shielded fixtures, whenever possible.  

• Must not exceed 1500 lumens per fixture (5000 lumens on nonresidential properties) (Section 102-4C(3))*

• Must be 2700K or less in color temperature (Section 102-4B) (2400K or less is recommended to be the most dark-sky and neighbor friendly)

• Must be turned off between 11pm and 6am (or, in the case of nonresidential properties, within one hour of closing until one hour before opening) (Section 102-4C)

* There is a cap on the total lumens allowed per site (Section 102-4C(1)), all fixtures combined, so we recommend using only 50 to 300 lumens per fixture for this kind of lighting.
